SummaryThe WorkForce Health Diagnostic Tech/Occupational Tech, with indirect supervision, applies ionizing radiation for diagnostic purposes, performs a variety of diagnostic radiographic procedures utilizing techniques to produce images for interpretation by a Radiologist. Maintains processing equipment and performs quality control on radiographic equipment as necessary. Other clerical duties may be requested during slow volume times. Performs functions related to billing including ICD-10 and CPT coding and performs other duties as assigned. With indirect supervision, performs clerical functions including but not limited to: patient reception, appointment scheduling, computer data entry, maintains patient files. Performs clinical functions related to assisting the provider with processing patients for injury treatment, physical assessments, ancillary screenings and reporting results according to the Department of Transportation and policies established for WFH clients. Promotes teamwork among co-workers and adheres to patient satisfaction principles.
Experience/Education Requirements
- Possess the knowledge to demonstrate competency to successfully complete a variety of diagnostic radiology procedures and maintain additional education in radiographic anatomy
- Ability to work in an automated environment required
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
- Phlebotomy recommended
- Previous ICD-10 and CPT coding experience preferred License or Certification Requirements:
- Graduate of Committee or Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) accredited program in medical imaging or equivalent
- Active licensure from the Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety
- Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or equivalent for diagnostic category
- CPR recommended
- Phlebotomy preferred
Responsibilities
- Answers telephone promptly and takes accurate messages
- Applies radiation safety to minimize risk to patient, self, and others.
- Assists with injury treatment.
- Assists with patient processing for physicals and physician-related visits.
- Collects and reports results to appropriate company contact.
- Completes and follows through with referrals and documentation.
- Conducts appropriate screening test required by company protocols, i.e. hearing test, lab draws, EKG, drug screen, BAT, PPS.
- Correlates patient history with procedure, assuring information is documented and available for use by Radiologist.
- Determines radiographic technique exposure factors.
- Documents missed appointments in Agility and EPIC if applicable . Maintains records required by regulatory standards and procedures.
- Evaluates radiographic images for technical quality, assuring proper identification and anatomical markings.
- Greet patients timely and courteously.
- Immobilizes patient and equipment to best demonstrate anatomy.
- Orders radiology supplies and other supplies needed for the daily processing of patients.
- Performs accurate computer data entry of patient demographics including Agility and EPIC registrations.
- Performs daily QC on all radiology equipment and follows quality procedures.
- Positions patient and equipment to best demonstrate anatomy.
- Schedule patient clinical and diagnostic appointments.
- Accurately schedules appointments in Agility and follows client protocol for requested services by selecting the correct medical actvities to coincide with company protocols and requests.
- Accurately selects correct medical activities for patient according to company protocol or requests.
- Co-ordinating multi services for scheduled visits. Work for other departments to schedule the multi-services
- Checks patients out, completes medical activities when applicable.
- Follows client protocols to ensure correct services are provided by referencing the protocols on the O drive and Agility.
- Competent in Agility, EPIC and able to access Company protocols on the O drive and in Agility.
- Performs drug screen collections.
- Performs breath-alcohol collections.
- Assist providers during examinations under scope of practice.
- Assist providers with patient procedures, treatments, (preparation, positioning, supplies, equipment). Proactively problem-solves and identifies solutions to barriers.
- Maintains and uses principles of aseptic techniques and infection control when performing clinical duties and tasks.
- Greets patients courteously and escorts them to the exam room ensuring patient privacy by closing the exam door.
- Monitor patient recognizing and reporting abnormal findings.
- Files/scans patient test results, records, and other paperwork timely and accurately.
- Follows established policies and procedures for WFH.
- Recognizes emergency situations and implements emergency procedures according to the clinic guidelines.
- Performs electrocardiograms.
- Takes accurate patient vital signs and documents in appropriate system. Agility and/or EPIC
- Administers subcutaneous and intramuscular injections according to the policy and administers TB testing and reading results and documents in the Agility system.
- Performs venipunctures and non-blood specimen collection and correctly labels all specimens according to RHC Policy.
- Collect and document clinical data.
- Performs pulmonary function tests, pulse oximetry, as instructed by company protocol and provider.
- Performs glucometer/cholesterol testing.
- Clean exam rooms.
- Provides patient instructions for procedure preps.
- Maintains POCT quality control and unknown specimen proficiencies.
- Performs all ancillary testing requred by company protocols.
- Performs mask fit testing for Respirator fit testing , n95 fit test and hazmat.
- Correctly identifies patient safety issues within the health care center and works to eliminate them/prevent injury.
- Communicates effectively and respectfully at all times with team members/physicians/providers and patients/visitors.
- Document record of care in a timely and compliant manner.
- Maintains confidentiality of all records and patient communications.
- Performs hearing tests/screenings.
- Performs drug screen according o best practice and Federal Regulations.
- Performs Breath Alcohol testing according to best practice and Federal Regulations.
- On Call schedule for Drug Screen (Federal).
